24 is one of those great shows you can catch on TV late at night, and you expect it to be on when nothing else is. The television show "24" is a non stop, unrelenting thrill ride. It centers on activities within a fictional government agency called CTU, or Counter Terrorism Unit. The show relates very closely to what is happening in the real world, so it kind of hits home. The CTU acts as a buffer between our country and terrorist threats against us and works very closely with the Department of Homeland Security.
Directed by Jon Caesar, 24 was created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran for the Fox television network. The show has earned several Emmy's and Golden Globe awards. These two men also created and produced La Femme Nikita. Mr. Cochran is also responsible for the shows Company Man and The Call.
Mr. Surnow has served in supervisory and executive positions with The Equalizer and Miami Vice. He has also been a writer for such shows as Nowhere Man and Wiseguy
The show was slated to start it's 7th season on January 13, 2008. 24 has always presented an unbroken series of shows and the writer's strike made that impossible. So the start of season 7 was postponed until the strike is resolved.
Basically, 24 is a day in the life of agent Jack Bauer. Each show happens in real time and covers one hour as Jack Bauer works against the clock to stop numerous terrorist attacks on American soil. All the while, Jack Bauer is juggling his personal feelings and dealing with emotions that threaten his state of mind.
As Jack tackles terrorists, he does so at great personal cost. He is always the target of those he has thwarted in the past and he has lost friends, family and colleagues as a result.
Jack Bauer is played by Kiefer Sutherland and has earned numerous awards as Best Lead Actor in a TV series for his work on 24. Jack is CTU's best agent and it seems he just can't get away from it.
Chloe O'Brian is played by Mary Lyn Rajskub. Chloe's character is a highly technical systems analyst. She is Jack's right hand, to say the least. Chloe is steadfastly loyal to Jack and VERY smart to boot.
Bill Buchanan is played by James Morrison, who is another staunch believer in Jack Bauer's abilities. Bill is the director of the CTU and regularly calls on Jack in tough situations.
President David Palmer is portrayed by Dennis Haysbert. He was a main character and personal friend of Jack until he was assassinated in the season 5 opener. Jack was framed for this crime and had to come out of hiding to clear his name.
